Jon Levine is a Professor and Director at the Wisconsin National Primate Research Center. He continues to lead his own active research laboratory, which conducts funded research relevant to four working group areas: pathogenesis of polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), organizational and activational effects of steroid hormones in the brain, with particular emphasis on the roles that estrogen and androgen receptors play in mediating the effects of steroids on neurodevelopment, puberty, ovulatory cyclicity, reproductive development, and energy homeostasis. His research highlights the common features of impaired insulin sensitivity and abnormal glucose control encountered in individuals with PCOS. Currently, his major focus is to determine the potential role of brain steroidogenesis in the neuroendocrine regulation of body weight, adiposity, glucose homeostasis, and energy metabolism.
