Biography

Jon McGinnis is a world expert in the early history of natural philosophy and physics conducted in the Greek, Arabic, Judeo-Arabic, and Latin-speaking ancient medieval worlds. He is an accomplished philosopher, classicist, and Islamicist with a master's degree in Church history who finds learning enjoyable. McGinnis has authored numerous articles and has contributed to Avicenna's work in Oxford University Press's Great Medieval Thinkers Series, which includes translations from Turkish and Persian. He has also served as a translator and editor for Avicenna's encyclopedic work, The Healing, and co-translated Classical Arabic Philosophy: Anthology Sources with David C. Reisman. Throughout his career, he has received prestigious awards including National Endowment for the Humanities awards, a Mellon grant, and a John Templeton Foundation grant. He is a member of the Institute for Advanced Study in Princeton and the Siebold-Collegium Institute for Advanced Study at the University of Würzburg.
