Biography

Jon H. Pammett is a Distinguished Research Professor and a leading expert in survey research in Canada. He has significantly contributed to the field by participating in the design of the Canadian National Election Studies during the years 1974, 1979, and 1980, and has surveyed recent elections and referendums. His published works include influential books such as 'Political Choice in Canada,' 'Dynasties and Interludes,' and 'Absent Mandate,' with the latter's latest edition released in 2019. Alongside Chris Dornan, he has co-edited volumes in the Canadian General Election series, including the Canadian General Election of 2015. His academic endeavors led Canada’s involvement in the International Social Survey Programme starting in 1998, where he edited and contributed to books leveraging ISSP data on issues like social inequality and environmental attitudes in Canada. Pammett’s research predominantly focuses on the nature of democratic participation, as reflected in his articles and reports for Elections Canada, addressing concerns such as declining voter turnout, especially among the youth. He has also examined the implications of electronic voting in Canada and its global counterparts.
