Dr. Jon Simon

Biography

Jon Simon is the Joan Reinhart Professor in the Department of Applied Physics at Stanford University. He has cultivated a rich background in electronics, programming, and physics, beginning from his high school days at Montgomery Blair, where he served as the captain of the game programming club and chess team. Jon pursued his undergraduate studies at Caltech, where he was a member of the NCAA Division III soccer team and honed his skills in physics and electronics. Following his undergraduate education, he obtained his graduate degree and completed a postdoctoral fellowship at MIT and Harvard, focusing on cavity quantum electrodynamics and synthetic quantum matter in optical lattices. In addition to his academic achievements, Jon has been involved in the Charles Regatta Club and enjoys kitesurfing on weekends. His interests extend to the intersection of light and simulation, where he explores both quantum and classical matter. Outside of work, he enjoys grappling, flying drones, and training his cat, Emmy, to perform tricks.
