Dr. Jon Witman

Biography

Jon Witman is a Professor Emeritus in Ecology, Evolution, and Organismal Biology at Brown University. He has had a profound impact on marine ecology, particularly in understanding the dynamics of populations and communities in living marine hard substrate habitats. Witman’s academic journey began at Sandy Hook Marine Lab, New Jersey, where he fostered a keen interest in marine benthic ecology. His research has explored anthropogenic impacts on marine life, and he has engaged in extensive fieldwork across various oceanic regions, including the South Pacific and the Galápagos.
