Dr. Jonah Brundage

Biography

Jonah Stuart Brundage is an Assistant Professor of Sociology at the University of Michigan. He specializes in political historical sociology, with interests in state formation, empire, geopolitics, the origins of capitalism, and social elites. Jonah received his Ph.D. in Sociology from the University of California, Berkeley in 2019. Prior to his current position, he served as a postdoctoral fellow at the Belfer Center for Science and International Affairs at Harvard University’s Kennedy School of Government. His ongoing research includes a book tentatively titled 'Performing World Order: British Diplomats, Politics, and Recognition in Empires, 1688–1783,' which examines how social practices in diplomacy and treaty-making contributed to the rise of the British Empire. His work has been published in reputable journals such as the American Sociological Review and Comparative Studies in Society and History.
