Biography

Jonah Corne is an Associate Professor in the Department of English, Theatre, Film & Media at the University of Manitoba, where he serves as the Coordinator of the Film Studies Program. His research primarily focuses on global cinema, experimental film, media theory, modernist literature, and Jewish studies. Corne co-authored the book 'Yiddish Cinema: Drama Troubled Communication' with Monika Vrečar, which explores Yiddish films through the lens of Czech-Jewish media philosopher Vilém Flusser. He has published numerous articles addressing the works of filmmakers, writers, and thinkers such as Michael Klier, Rebecca West, Hirokazu Kore-eda, Michel Chion, Michael Mann, E.M. Forster, Josef von Sternberg, Delmore Schwartz, Julian Schnabel, Georg Simmel, and Wilhelm Worringer. His current project investigates the representation of mysticism across a wide range of contemporary cinema.
