Biography

Jonas Ebbesson is a Professor at Stockholm University, specializing in Environmental Law. He has served as the Dean of the Faculty of Law from 2012 to 2017 and is the Director of the Stockholm Environmental Law Policy Centre. Ebbesson has been a member of the Compliance Committee of the UNECE Convention on Access to Information, Public Participation in Decision-making and Access to Justice in Environmental Matters (Aarhus Convention) from 2005 to 2021 and has chaired the committee from 2011 to 2021. His research focuses on the transboundary dimensions of environmental law, emphasizing public participation and access to justice in environmental matters. Ebbesson has authored numerous publications on legal aspects of public interest and has contributed to a significant anthology on international environmental law related to the UN Sustainable Development Goals. He also holds responsibility for teaching and leading the Master’s program in Environmental Law at Stockholm University. His consultancy work includes legal expertise for various governmental and intergovernmental bodies in matters of environmental law, investment, and public participation. Ebbesson is also engaged in capacity-building judicial training for judges internationally.
