Jonas received his PhD in 2015 from Ghent University. Prior to joining Tilburg University, he conducted postdoctoral research at KU Leuven, Ghent University, and Yale. His research is dedicated to creating an understanding of psychopathology and developing efficacious interventions to alleviate the societal burden. Moving beyond traditional approaches that focus solely on individual risk factors, he integrates methods at various levels of analysis to elucidate the intricate interplay of multiple causal risk factors contributing to depression and anxiety. Using this understanding, he develops theories to identify opportunities for prediction, detection, and intervention. In 2021, Jonas received the Rising Star Award from the Association for Psychological Science. Additionally, he is an honorary associate professor at King's College London.
