Biography

Jonathan Arons earned his Ph.D. in Astronomy from Harvard in 1970. He was a postdoctoral fellow at Princeton University Observatory from 1970-71 and at the Institute for Advanced Study in 1971-72. Arons joined the Astronomy Department at UC Berkeley in 1972 and moved to the Physics Department in 1980. His fellowships and honors include the Woodrow Wilson Danforth Graduate Fellowships from 1965-70 and the Guggenheim Fellowship in 1980. He held Miller Professorships during 1985-86 and 2002-03, and was elected as a Fellow of the American Physical Society in 1984. He currently serves as the Executive Director of the Miller Institute and is the Director of the Theoretical Astrophysics Center. His research interests focus on physics of compact astrophysical objects, particularly neutron stars, and the dynamics of fully ionized plasmas.
