Dr. Jonathan Austin

Biography

Jonathan Luke Austin is an Associate Professor at the University of Copenhagen in the Department of Political Science, specializing in international relations. His research spans a global comparative study of political violence, the transnational implications of emerging technologies on international security, and critiques of contemporary social science. He leads a €3.2 million research project on humanitarian design and previously directed the Violence Prevention Initiative based in Geneva. With over 15 years of field research experience in the Middle East, Austin actively engages with international organizations, NGOs, and media on current political issues. He is also involved in public outreach and has developed a unique teaching philosophy that promotes students' independent exploration of political issues. Austin's teaching and administrative roles include coordinating specializations in International Relations and Conflict Resolution at the graduate level. He has published extensively in various academic journals, focusing on subjects like political violence and critical theory.
