Biography

Jonathan Barker qualified in Medicine from Guy’s Hospital in 1981 and completed his internal medicine training with MRCP in 1985. He underwent further training in Dermatology at the Department of Dermatology, Guy’s Hospital from 1985 to 1991. He held a Senior Research Fellowship in Dermatology and Pathology at the University of Michigan, USA, from 1989 to 1990. In 1991, he was appointed as Senior Lecturer in Dermatology and Honorary Consultant Dermatologist at the St John’s Institute of Dermatology. In 2000, he was promoted to Professor of Clinical Dermatology and became Academic Head of St John’s Institute of Dermatology in 2002. Professor Barker has served on the editorial board of several scientific journals and has been heavily involved in postgraduate education, including chairing the Annual Course for UK Dermatologists. He is a prominent figure in international dermatology and currently serves as the President of the European Dermatology Forum. Additionally, he has been the Secretary-General since 2003 and is the Director of the International Psoriasis Council since 2006. His research areas include systemic treatments and genetic factors associated with psoriasis and palmoplantar pustulosis, among others.
