Biography

Dr. Jonathan Bogan is a physician-scientist whose research focuses on understanding the mechanisms that regulate glucose uptake and metabolism in fat and muscle. He received a B.S. in electrical engineering from Yale College and an M.D. from Harvard Medical School, where he was involved in genetics research under Dr. David Page at the Whitehead Institute. Dr. Bogan completed his residency in Internal Medicine and a fellowship in Endocrinology at Massachusetts General Hospital. He joined the Yale faculty in 2002 as a tenured Professor of Medicine and has appointments in the Department of Cell Biology and at the Yale Center for Molecular and Systems Metabolism. His laboratory studies the molecular mechanisms regulating the GLUT4 glucose transporter, which is crucial for insulin-stimulated glucose uptake in adipose and muscle cells. Dr. Bogan has received numerous awards including the NIH Physician-Scientist Award and the American Diabetes Association Career Development Award. He is also an elected member of the American Society for Clinical Investigation.
