Biography

Jonathan Challoner is a versatile creative musician based in Canada. Growing up in Qualicum Beach, BC, he was surrounded by mentors such as Phil Dwyer, Ingrid Jensen, and Arnie Chycoski, which influenced his musical journey. He became an integral part of Toronto's vibrant music scene before relocating to New York City in 2012 to study at the Juilliard School. He has performed internationally with renowned artists across various genres, including jazz, classical, salsa, and pop. Currently an Assistant Professor at the University of Manitoba in the Desautels Faculty of Music, Challoner leads the Jazz Orchestra and teaches Jazz Trumpet. He holds a Bachelor of Music in Contemporary Music from Humber College and a Master of Music in Jazz from Juilliard. Challoner has collaborated with notable musicians and performed at prestigious venues such as Jazz Lincoln Center and Birdland. His research includes documenting the evolution of jazz trumpet pedagogy over the past century, alongside ongoing projects in creative works and performances.
