Dr. Jonathan Cherry

Biography

Jonathan Cherry is an Assistant Professor at the Chobanian & Avedisian School of Medicine, Boston University, specializing in Pathology and Laboratory Medicine. He completed his Bachelor of Science in Biology at Ursinus College in 2008, followed by a PhD in Pathology from the University of Rochester in 2015. Dr. Cherry began his academic career as a postdoctoral researcher in McKee laboratory before being appointed as an assistant professor in 2019. He also holds a position as a health scientist at the VA Boston Healthcare System, where his research focuses on neuroinflammation and its role in the pathogenesis of Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy (CTE). His work involves identifying the contributions of microglia and inflammatory cytokines to the pathophysiology of CTE and related neurodegenerative diseases. Dr. Cherry directs the digital pathology hub at the Boston University CTE Center and employs advanced histological techniques to analyze human postmortem tissue. His research extends to Alzheimer’s disease and various neurodegenerative disorders, aiming to characterize the spectrum of pathology associated with these conditions.
