Dr. Jonathan Codd

Biography

Jonathan Codd is a Senior Lecturer in Integrative Vertebrate Biology at the University of Manchester, focusing on comparative physiology and biomechanics in vertebrates, particularly in birds and mammals. He obtained his Bachelor of Science degree with Honours in animal biology from Flinders University of South Australia in 1997, followed by a Master of Science degree in animal physiology from The University of Adelaide in 2001. He earned his Ph.D. from the University of Bonn in 2004, working under Professor S.F. Perry on the physiology and mechanics of ventilation in birds. After completing his doctoral degree, he undertook a postdoctoral fellowship at the University of Bonn, which led to a deepening interest in respiratory biology. In 2005, Jonathan moved to the UK to take a Lectureship position in the Faculty of Life Sciences at the University of Manchester. His research group has secured ongoing funding from institutions such as the Leverhulme Trust, BBSRC, and NERC, and he has organized symposia and conferences focused on respiration and locomotion.
