The 2019-2020 season marked Canadian violinist Jonathan Crow's ninth season as Concertmaster of the Toronto Symphony Orchestra. Hailing from Prince George, British Columbia, Jonathan earned a Bachelor of Music in Honors Performance from McGill University in 1998. He previously served as Associate Principal Violin with the Montreal Symphony Orchestra from 2002 to 2006 and became the youngest concertmaster of a major North American orchestra during his time there. Jonathan has performed as guest concertmaster with various orchestras worldwide including the National Arts Centre Orchestra, Pittsburgh Symphony, and Mahler Chamber Orchestra. As a soloist, he has collaborated with major Canadian orchestras such as the Montreal, Toronto, and Vancouver Symphony Orchestras. An experienced educator, Jonathan joined the Schulich School of Music at McGill University as an Assistant Professor of Violin and became an Associate Professor of Violin in 2010. He is also the Artistic Director of Toronto Summer Music, a position he has held since 2016, and is a founding member of the Juno Award-winning New Orford String Quartet, which promotes Canadian string quartet repertoire across North America. Jonathan is a passionate advocate for contemporary music, having premiered numerous works by Canadian composers and recorded for esteemed labels.
