Biography

Jonathan Ellis is a Lecturer in Law at the University of Pennsylvania Carey Law School. He serves as an Assistant Solicitor General at the U.S. Department of Justice, where he has filed over 85 briefs in the U.S. Supreme Court, addressing issues in constitutional law, immigration law, copyright law, patent law, and administrative law, and has argued seven cases before the Supreme Court. Before joining the Office of the Solicitor General, Mr. Ellis was part of the Supreme Court Appellate Group at Latham & Watkins. He also clerked for Chief Justice John G. Roberts, Jr., and for Judge Raymond Randolph of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit. Mr. Ellis is a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania Carey Law School, obtaining his Juris Doctor in 2010, and he holds a Bachelor of Science degree from North Carolina State University, which he completed in 2003.
