Biography

Joined the University of Glasgow as a Senior Lecturer in 2020 after holding positions at the University of Exeter, University of Hull, and the University of Portsmouth. Promoted to Reader in 2024, his research interests as a trained comparatist span literature, film, and popular media, particularly focusing on the relationship between culture and politics. He explores transnational circulation of texts and ideas, as well as alternative practices found in DIY participatory cultures. His current project, a monograph titled 'Translating Queer Cinema', involves collaboration with Ting Guo from Liverpool, expanding his previously AHRC funded project 'Translating Change'. This work combines an exploration of Chinese translation of Anglophone queer cinema and an analysis of queer cinema's translation across the UK, USA, and other regions, accompanied by close readings and ethnography. A notable aspect of his research includes examining intercultural connections among countercultural groups from the 1960s to 1970s, exploring archives such as 'International' (UK) and 'L’internationnale situationniste' (France). He has contributed significantly to the field by co-editing various academic publications and being involved in major grants. His current teaching covers diverse aspects of translation studies and he actively supervises students in related fields.
