Jonathan Fallowfield is a Senior Clinical Fellow at the University of Edinburgh and an Honorary Consultant Hepatologist at the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh. He completed his medical training at Southampton and pursued his PhD focused on liver fibrosis and its reversibility as a MRC Clinical Research Training Fellow. Since relocating to Edinburgh in 2008, he has been awarded a Clinician Scientist fellowship from the Academy of Medical Sciences/Health Foundation. His research interests include the mechanisms of liver fibrosis, fibrosis regression, portal hypertension, and the development of non-invasive biomarkers and new therapies for chronic liver disease. Current projects involve leading clinical evaluations of Serelaxin as a hemodynamic modulator for cirrhosis, overseeing a trial on MRI-based treatment response biomarkers for portal hypertension, and collaborating with GlaxoSmithKline to develop anti-fibrotic medicines. He currently supervises multiple PhD fellows and clinical research fellows and is heavily engaged with the pharmaceutical and biotech sectors, in addition to his clinical work in general hepatology and therapeutic upper GI endoscopy.
