Biography

Jonathan Kimmelman, PhD, is a James McGill Professor of Biomedical Ethics at McGill University. He leads a research group known as STREAM (Studies in Translation, Ethics, and Medicine), focused on understanding the ethical, policy, and scientific dynamics involved in developing new drugs. Kimmelman has received numerous recognitions for his work including the Maud Menten New Investigator Prize (2006), the CIHR New Investigator Award (2008), and the Humboldt Bessel Award (2014), and he was elected a Hastings Center Fellow in 2018. He has been involved with significant advisory bodies such as the U.S. NHLBI and NIAID, and he has served four terms on U.S. National Academies of Medicine committees. Kimmelman chaired the revision task force for the International Society for Stem Cell Research Guidelines on Stem Cell Research and Clinical Translation from 2015-2016. His work has been featured in major media outlets including NPR, Nature, and STATNews. He also serves as a deputy editor for Clinical Trials and an associate editor for Med.
