Professor Dr. Jonathan Korostoff

Biography

Jonathan Korostoff is a Professor of Periodontics and the Director of the Master of Science in Oral Biology Program at Penn Dental Medicine. He teaches a wide range of courses at pre-doctoral and post-doctoral levels, covering topics such as the structures of the periodontium, basic immunology, oral microbiology, periodontal pathogenesis, and implant dentistry. Dr. Korostoff has collaborated with Dr. Joseph DiRienzo on NIH-funded projects, focusing on understanding the role of bacterial cytotoxin in periodontal pathogenesis and its potential as a therapeutic agent in treating certain types of cancer. He also leads corporate-funded clinical research projects aimed at studying materials for guided bone regeneration and immediate loading of dental implants. In addition to his academic roles, he serves as an attending periodontist at Penn Dental Care Network and the Department of Oral Maxillofacial Surgery at the University of Pennsylvania Medical Center.
