Dr. Jonathan Krell

Biography

Jonathan Krell is a Senior Clinical Lecturer in Medical Oncology at Imperial College London, with a clinical focus on the systemic management of patients with gynaecological malignancies. His specialist interest lies in cancer genetics and hereditary malignancies, particularly related to BRCA gene mutations. He qualified in medicine from Leeds University Medical School, earning a class honours degree in Pharmacology. His clinical experience includes junior doctor posts at St. James' Hospital Leeds and Guys & St. Thomas' Hospitals in London, with subsequent oncology training at Charing Cross and Hammersmith Hospitals. Dr. Krell's PhD research, funded by the Medical Research Council, investigated the interplay of genetic mutations and DNA damage response in cancer therapeutics. His ongoing research program emphasizes cancer genetics and polygenic risk, focusing on the interface of germline and somatic mutations, especially concerning TP53 and BRCA. He has a strong interest in the role of circulating small non-coding RNAs as diagnostic, prognostic, and predictive biomarkers. His work in gynaecological and pancreatic malignancies integrates strong translational research components, and he is a prominent member of the translational research team at the Ovarian Cancer Action Centre, part of Cancer Research UK and Imperial College. His research aims to address the resistance to current anti-cancer agents in ovarian cancer.
