Biography

Dr. Jonathan Lau is a trained neurosurgeon who returned to Western University in 2021, where he was appointed Assistant Professor in the Department of Clinical Neurological Sciences. He completed his neurosurgery residency at Western University and a fellowship in Functional Epilepsy at Emory University, focusing on advanced surgical neuromodulation including laser ablation, deep brain stimulation, closed-loop devices, and robotic surgery. He has received the Royal College Detweiler Traveling Scholarship and completed his Doctoral degree in biomedical engineering with a focus on image-guided neurosurgery, awarded the Canadian Institutes of Health Research Banting Doctoral Scholarship. His research is centered on minimally invasive hybrid surgical approaches for personalized treatment of nervous system disorders, utilizing advanced imaging techniques such as ultra-high field MRI (>= 7 Tesla) to develop methods and tools aimed at improving the accuracy of neurosurgical procedures. Dr. Lau is also an Associate Scientist at the Robarts Research Institute and an Associate Member of the School of Biomedical Engineering.
