Dr. Jonathan Liljeblad

Biography

Jonathan Liljeblad earned his PhD and JD from the University of Southern California, and a BS from the California Institute of Technology. His research focuses on the complexities promoting international norms in developing countries, utilizing case studies in Indigenous rights, human rights, and environmental issues. His fieldwork primarily takes place in Southeast Asia and is supported by international aid organizations such as the Asian Development Bank, Konrad Adenauer Stiftung, Danish Institute of Human Rights, and International Commission of Jurists. As a 'scholactivist,' his scholarship connects with advocacy work, bridging the gaps between academia, government, and civil society. He aims to foster interdisciplinary, transboundary, and cross-cultural collaborations that provide direct impact for policymakers and societal leaders. He was born into the Pa'Oh indigenous peoples of Shan State, Myanmar, and has lived in Sweden and the United States.
