Jonathan Lin received his Ph.D. in Atmospheric Science from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 2022, where he was advised by Professor Kerry Emanuel. His research broadly focuses on tropical meteorology, with specific interests in tropical cyclones, equatorial waves, and the Madden-Julian Oscillation. Currently a National Science Foundation Postdoctoral Fellow at the Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory at Columbia University, he will join Cornell University's Department of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences as an Assistant Professor in July 2024. Dr. Lin's work addresses critical challenges in understanding the dynamics of tropical atmospheres, including the forecasting of hurricanes and understanding their predictability and associated weather hazards due to climate change. He also explores intra-seasonal variability in the tropics, as well as interactions between the troposphere and stratosphere, particularly in relation to tropical weather systems.
