Biography

Jonathan Malen is a Raymond J. Lane Distinguished Professor in the College of Engineering at Carnegie Mellon University. His research focuses on understanding thermal transport processes at both atomistic and macroscopic scales, particularly in advanced materials technologies. The Malen Laboratory employs ultrafast laser techniques, micro/nanofabrication, and thermal imaging approaches to measure thermal properties and processes. His recent projects include thermal management of high-powered electronics, thermal imaging of advanced manufacturing processes, and phonon transport in organic-inorganic materials. Malen has received several prestigious awards, including the ASME Bergles-Rohsenhow Young Investigator Award and the National Science Foundation CAREER Award. He completed his Ph.D. in mechanical engineering at the University of California, Berkeley, and has been a faculty member at Carnegie Mellon since 2009.
