Biography

Jonathan D. Ostry is a Professor of Economics, Global Affairs, and Public Policy at the University of Toronto, affiliated with the Munk School and the Department of Economics. He has served as a Research Fellow at the Center for Economic Policy Research in London and as a Non-Resident Fellow at Bruegel in Brussels. Ostry is also a member of the Global Risks Advisory Board of the World Economic Forum in Geneva. Previously, he was on the faculty at Georgetown University, where he held a Professorship in the Department of Economics. Ostry has had a distinguished career at the International Monetary Fund, where he held senior positions including Deputy Director of Research and Acting Director for the Asia-Pacific region. He earned his PhD in Economics from the University of Chicago and has degrees from the London School of Economics and Political Science and Queen's University Canada. His research interests include managing international capital flows, the relationship between income inequality and economic growth, and fiscal sustainability. Ostry's work focuses on the role of fiscal management in determining access to international capital markets and has been widely published in scholarly journals and the financial press.
