Biography

Jonathan Padley is an Affiliated Lecturer at the Faculty of Education at the University of Cambridge. His expertise lies in English children's literature from the eighteenth century to the present day, where he explores themes of marginalization among authors, texts, and characters. His PhD dissertation focused on understanding child protagonists in children's literature, engaging with both etymological and theoretical perspectives on monsters in literature. Jonathan's research interests include interdisciplinary dialogues among literature, media, music, science, and theology. He has published extensively on topics ranging from the transgressive creation of Mary Shelley's Frankenstein to bibliographical anomalies in Alfred Tennyson's English Idyls. He is dedicated to widening participation in higher education, with past work as a co-lead for Welsh Government research policy implementation. Before his current role, Jonathan served for fourteen years at Churchill College as an outreach practitioner and Lead Admissions Tutor.
