Biography

Jonathan Page is a Professor of Engineering Practice in the Department of Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering at the University of Michigan, where he joined the faculty in the summer of 2023. With 21 years of service in the United States Navy, he has extensive experience in designing, acquiring, building, delivering, maintaining, and operating various classes of ships. Notable projects include leading the design efforts for the Zumwalt-class destroyer (DDG 1000) and the Lewis B. Puller-class expeditionary sea base (ESB 3).He earned a B.S. in Systems Engineering from the United States Naval Academy in 2002, followed by an M.S. in Engineering Management and a Naval Engineer’s degree from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in 2011. He completed his Ph.D. in Design Engineering at MIT in April 2022, where he leveraged his role as Deputy Ship Design Manager for the next-generation destroyer, DDG(X). His research interests include flexibility in engineering design, real options analysis, and team organization in large-scale projects. Dr. Page advocates for action research activities to promote understanding in the field and has developed an interest in design tools and workforce development initiatives in the naval engineering domain.
