Dr. Jonathan Raper

Biography

Jonathan Raper is an Emeritus Professor in the Department of Neuroscience at the Perelman School of Medicine, University of Pennsylvania. He holds a B.A. in Psychology from Harvard College (1974) and a Ph.D. in Cellular Neurophysiology from the University of California at San Diego (1979). His research expertise focuses on developmental neurobiology, particularly in the areas of axon guidance and the mechanisms that influence the direction of growing axons in the developing nervous system. He employs various models including embryonic zebrafish to study the development of primary olfactory projections and has developed transgenic lines to investigate how specific subsets of olfactory neurons project to identifiable target locations within the olfactory bulb. Raper's work has contributed significantly to understanding the complexities of axonal pathfinding and the cellular strategies employed during this process, and he has published numerous articles in prominent scientific journals on these topics.
