Dr. Jonathan Rees

Biography

Professor Jonathan Rees graduated from St Mary's Hospital Medical School, London, in 1992, specializing in orthopaedics. He completed his Specialist Fellowship training at Oxford, focusing on complex shoulder and elbow surgery. He was appointed as a Clinical Lecturer at the Nuffield Department of Orthopaedics, Rheumatology and Musculoskeletal Sciences (NDORMS) in 2004, became a University Lecturer and Consultant Orthopaedic Shoulder and Elbow Surgeon in 2005, and reached the rank of Professor in 2014. In 2021, he was appointed as NIHR Senior Investigator and became the Director of the Botnar Institute of Musculoskeletal Sciences at the University of Oxford, while also becoming the Head of the NDORMS department in 2022. He has served in various national roles, including past President of the British Elbow Shoulder Society (BESS), and has significant involvement with national organizations to promote healthcare guidelines. His clinical work includes the treatment of elective shoulder conditions at the Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre, where he also trains postgraduate orthopaedic surgical trainees. His research focuses on improving orthopaedic patient outcomes and incorporates collaborations with national and international academic clinicians and scientists. Furthermore, he has developed an education structure at NDORMS and has directed the Trauma, Orthopaedic, Rheumatology, and Emergency Medicine Programme for undergraduate medical students at the University of Oxford.
