Biography

Jonathan S. Reichner is a Professor Emeritus in the Department of Surgery at Brown University Medical School. He completed his Bachelor of Science degree at Ohio State University and earned a Ph.D. in Microbiology and Immunology from the State University of New York at Buffalo in 1983. Following his doctorate, he conducted postdoctoral research at the MD Anderson Hospital and Johns Hopkins School of Medicine. His research focuses on neutrophils and their role in both cancer and inflammation, exploring mechanisms such as trogoptosis—the process through which neutrophils kill tumor cells—and the effects of the extracellular matrix on neutrophil behavior. Recent work has investigated how neutrophils interact with fungal pathogens and the implications of these interactions in patients with severe infections. His ongoing research aims to apply insights gained from studying neutrophil responses to enhance therapeutic strategies against cancer and infectious diseases.
