Biography

Jonathan Russell-Anelli is a Senior Lecturer and Senior Extension Associate in the School of Integrative Plant Science at Cornell University. His research and extension activities focus on urban soils, urban agriculture, contaminants, and bionutrient cycling, addressing the interface of these areas with significant environmental benefits for food production and sustainable practices. With a comprehensive understanding of the dynamics of Earth systems, he emphasizes the importance of soil management in response to climate change and land use intensification. Russell-Anelli's major research areas include the transition of urban waste feedstocks to healthy soil media for food production, the safe use of contaminated land, and urban agriculture. He collaborates extensively with agencies and stakeholders in New York State, providing essential soil information and management strategies to enhance agricultural productivity and environmental stewardship. He is also active in teaching, providing courses in Soil Science, Pedology, and supporting undergraduate research and extension roles internationally.
