Biography

Jonathan Sergison graduated from the Architectural Association School of Architecture in 1989 and gained professional experience working with notable architects such as David Chipperfield and Tony Fretton. In 1996, he founded Sergison Bates architects in London, which opened a studio in Zurich, Switzerland in 2010. The practice has completed numerous projects worldwide and has received several awards and recognitions. Sergison's work has been extensively published. He has taught at various architecture schools, including the University of North London and the Architectural Association in London, and has held visiting professor positions at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH) Zurich, École Polytechnique Fédérale Lausanne (EPFL), and the Oslo School of Architecture and Design, as well as the Harvard University Graduate School of Design. Since 2008, he has served as a Professor of Design and Construction at the Accademia di Mendrisio in Switzerland. Sergison's research interests focus on urban questions and the conditions of the contemporary European city, particularly the role of housing in changing contexts. He regularly engages in writing, teaching, and provides critiques, and is actively involved in commissions and competition juries.
