Jonathan L. Sessler is a Professor in the Department of Chemistry at the University of Texas at Austin. He was born in Urbana, Illinois, and received his Bachelor of Science degree with the highest honors in Chemistry from the University of California, Berkeley in 1977. He has authored or co-authored 225 research publications and has an extensive record of 60 issued or allowed U.S. patents. A co-founder of Pharmacyclics, Inc., a company dedicated to developing biomedical applications of expanded porphyrins, he has received numerous awards in recognition of his teaching and research contributions, including being named a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science.
