Dr. Jonathan Tennyson

Biography

Jonathan Tennyson is a professor of physics at University College London, where he has held several significant positions since joining the institution. He pursued his undergraduate studies in Natural Sciences at King’s College, Cambridge, achieving a BA in 1977, followed by a PhD in Theoretical Chemistry from the University of Sussex in 1980. Tennyson's academic journey has included roles such as being a Royal Society Western European Exchange Fellow at the University of Nijmegen and a member of the Theory Group at Daresbury Laboratory. He became a Reader in 1991, subsequently leading the Atomic, Molecular, and Optical Positron research group until 2004, when he was promoted to Professor of Physics. His research focuses on molecular line lists for exoplanet atmospheres, which is part of the ERC-funded ExoMol project. Additionally, he has contributed to the field through various leadership roles, including being the head of the Department of Physics and Astronomy from 2004 to 2011 and holding positions in notable scientific organizations and ventures such as Quantemol Ltd and Blue Skies Space Ltd. Tennyson's scholarly contributions are recognized worldwide through his editorial involvement and collaborations in various international scientific communities.
