Biography

Jonathan Valvano is a Professor at the University of Texas at Austin, in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering. He holds the Engineering Foundation Centennial Teaching Fellowship in Electrical Engineering. Valvano received his S.B. and S.M. degrees in Computer Science and Electrical Engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1977, and his Ph.D. in Medical Engineering from Harvard-MIT, Division of Health Science Technology in 1981. He joined the faculty at the University of Texas at Austin in 1981 as an Assistant Professor, was promoted to Associate Professor in 1986, and became a full Professor in 1994. Valvano has received multiple teaching awards and is the author of eight widely-used textbooks in embedded microcomputer systems. His research interests include Medical Instrumentation and Cardiac Measurements, and he directs the Electro-Thermal Bioinstrumentation Laboratory.
