Biography

Dr. Jonathan West is an Associate Professor of Biomedical Microfluidics at the University of Southampton, where his research focuses on the development of microfluidic technologies for cellular and molecular analytics. He has a multi-disciplinary background, beginning with a BSc in Medical Microbiology from the University of Edinburgh, followed by a PhD in Microsystems for Genetic Diagnostics from the Tyndall National Institute. In 2006, he worked with Prof. Andreas Manz in Dortmund, a pioneer in the Lab-on-a-Chip field, before becoming a Group Leader focused on organ-on-a-chip technologies. Since joining the University of Southampton in 2012, Dr. West has aimed to extend biomedical science through innovative microfluidic technologies, with core interests in studying protein dynamics and predicting thrombosis risk. He has a profound commitment to technology commercialization and academia, engaging in both teaching and leadership roles. His research includes high-throughput microfluidic plate profiling and understanding the implications of platelet functional diversity in thrombosis risk prediction. He actively collaborates with various research projects and continues to contribute to academic dialogues through conferences and seminars.
