Biography

Jonathan White is a Professor of Politics and Deputy Head of the European Institute at the London School of Economics and Political Science. His academic journey began with a PhD from the European University Institute in Florence. Since joining LSE as a Lecturer in September 2008, he has held visiting positions at prestigious institutions including Harvard University, Stanford University, and Wissenschaftskolleg zu Berlin. His research primarily focuses on democracy and political thought, with publications exploring the dynamics of political engagement and partisanship in Europe. His notable works include 'The Long Run: Future Political Ideas' (2024), 'Politics in a Time of Emergency' (2019), and 'Meaning of Partisanship' (2016). A recipient of the British Academy Brian Barry Prize in Political Science, he has also published in leading journals and contributed to major publications such as The Guardian and New Statesman. White’s teaching spans key themes in democratic theory and ideology, placing an emphasis on how political beliefs shape societal structures and responses to contemporary challenges.
