Dr. Jonathan Wiener

Biography

Jonathan B. Wiener is the William R. Perkins Distinguished Professor of Law at Duke University, where he also serves as a Professor of Environmental Policy and Public Policy. He is co-director of the Duke Center for Risk Science and Society Initiative. Dr. Wiener has a rich background in risk analysis, having served as President of the Society for Risk Analysis and co-chaired its World Congress in Sydney, Australia. His accolades include receiving the Chauncey Starr Young Risk Analyst Award and the Richard J. Burk Outstanding Service Award. He has directed various programs, such as the JD-LLM Program in International Comparative Law at Duke Law School and the Rethinking Regulation program. Dr. Wiener has authored several significant publications, including books on risk regulation and has contributed to over 100 articles across journals in law, policy, and risk science. His academic career has also included visiting professorships at esteemed institutions such as Harvard Law School and the University of Chicago Law School. His governmental service includes roles in the White House Council of Economic Advisers and the Department of Justice during the Bush and Clinton administrations. Dr. Wiener holds an A.B. in economics and a J.D. from Harvard University, where he was also an editor of the Harvard Law Review and assistant coach for the college debate champions.
