Biography

Jonathan Wild is a Senior Lecturer at the University of Edinburgh, having been appointed in September 2005 after completing a British Academy Postdoctoral Fellowship at the Centre for History. His research focuses on the late Victorian and Edwardian periods, with a keen interest in the relationship between literature and social history. Wild's scholarly contributions include significant works such as 'The Rise of the Clerk: Literary Culture, 1880-1939' and an upcoming publication titled 'The Great Edwardian Emporium: Literature in the 1900s'. He has published articles on noted authors including George Gissing and Jerome K. Jerome, and has explored themes related to popular literary magazines such as John O’London’s Weekly. Currently, he is working on a monograph about literary culture in the Edwardian period and conducting further investigations on 'middlebrow' material culture in the interwar period. He actively welcomes research proposals within his research areas.
