Professor Dr. Jonathan Zeitlin

Biography

Jonathan Zeitlin is a Distinguished Faculty Professor of Public Policy Governance Emeritus at the University of Amsterdam's Department of Political Science and Faculty of Social and Behavioral Sciences. He has been a leading figure in research on the coordination of EU social, economic, and employment policies for over 25 years, contributing significantly to policies such as the European Employment Strategy and the Lisbon Strategy. Zeitlin holds degrees from Harvard College, the University of Cambridge, and the University of Warwick. He served 18 years at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where he was Professor of Sociology and Political Science, and directed the European Union Center of Excellence. In addition, he has held visiting positions at esteemed institutions like the European University Institute and King's College, Cambridge. Zeitlin's extensive publication record spans topics such as transnational governance, comparative business organization, and labor relations. He has received numerous fellowships and grants from prestigious organizations, including the Guggenheim Foundation and the European Commission. His academic leadership includes serving as President of the Society for the Advancement of Socio-Economics and as a Jean Monnet Chair from 2011 to 2014. He has also been an advisor to various EU institutions and international organizations.
