Biography

Jonathan S. Zwerling, MD, specializes in ophthalmology and provides comprehensive and compassionate eye care to both children and adults. He centers his clinical philosophy on a conservative approach to ensure excellent outcomes while fostering strong relationships with his patients. He specializes in cataract surgery and comprehensive ophthalmology, including the implanting of toric intraocular lenses to correct astigmatism and PanOptix multifocal intraocular lenses to reduce dependence on eyeglasses following cataract procedures. His expertise also encompasses femtosecond laser-assisted cataract surgery and microinvasive glaucoma surgery. Dr. Zwerling is board certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology, demonstrating his commitment to maintaining the highest standards of care. He has been actively involved in teaching and mentoring the next generation of medical professionals, working closely with medical students and residents to share knowledge and help them excel in the field of ophthalmology. With extensive experience in handling severe ocular trauma, Dr. Zwerling is well-equipped to manage complex cases. His journey in medicine began with a Bachelor of Science degree from Cornell University, followed by a medical degree from Stony Brook University where he was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha national medical honor society. After completing his medical internship at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, he pursued residency in ophthalmology at SUNY Downstate Medical Center, serving as chief administrative resident in his final year.
