Dr. Jong Rho

Biography

Jong Rho completed his undergraduate degree in Molecular Biophysics and Biochemistry at Yale University and received his MD from the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine. He completed residencies in Adult Neurology and Pediatric Neurology at UCLA David Geffen School of Medicine in Los Angeles, CA. Over the decades, Dr. Rho has worked and conducted basic-translational research in the field of developmental neurosciences, initially focusing on the basic mechanisms of anti-seizure medication action, followed by investigations into metabolism-based treatments for neurological disorders, such as the ketogenic diet. His work concentrates on brain mitochondria, human surgically-resected hypothalamic hamartomas, and autism spectrum disorder (ASD). He has significantly contributed to the area of neurometabolism in neurological disorders, holding leadership roles in various international societies and foundations. As Section Chief of Pediatric Neurology, he leads a team dedicated to providing the highest quality care to patients and families at Yale-New Haven Children's Hospital, with a focus on epilepsy, neurocritical care, movement disorders, neurogenetics, and neuro-oncology.
