Dr. Jonny Huck

Biography

Jonny Huck is a Professor of Computational Geography at the University of Manchester. His research expertise lies in the application of Geographic Information System (GIS) technologies across various domains, including global health, environmental sustainability, and spatial segregation. He has a longstanding interest in representing vague geographical entities in GIS and modeling behavioral patterns using geographical simulation. Jonny holds degrees in Geography from Lancaster University and Geographical Information Systems from the University of Leeds, as well as a PhD in Geographical Information Science. He has contributed significantly to the fields of Participatory GIS and Volunteered Geographic Information. Before his academic career, he served as a Technical Manager for a UK wind farm developer. Jonny also operates a GIS consultancy and has received several accolades for his work, including a fellowship at Furness College, Lancaster University, and prestigious Making a Difference Awards at the University of Manchester for his community mapping initiatives in Uganda. He chairs several committees and groups focused on GIS and is actively engaged in research that supports the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
