Joo-Hyun Song is an Associate Professor in Cognitive Psychological Sciences at Brown University. His research interests revolve around understanding the behavioral and underlying neural mechanisms involved in integrating higher-order cognitive processes with visually-guided actions in real-life situations. His work employs a combination of methodologies including behavioral investigations, fMRI, and neurophysiological experiments. After receiving his B.A. in Psychology from Seoul National University in 1998 and completing his Ph.D. in Psychology at Harvard University in 2006, he joined Brown University in 2010 following postdoctoral training in systems neuroscience and neuroimaging at the Smith-Kettlewell Eye Research Institute in San Francisco. His research aims to address how targets are selected from competing distractors during visually-guided actions and to explore the underlying neural mechanisms of target selection and the coordination of hand-eye movements. Additionally, he investigates the temporal evolution of target selection and the cognitive processes behind decision making during visually-guided actions.
