Biography

Jooske IJzer graduated as a veterinarian from Utrecht University in 1995 and has since worked in both small animal and mixed animal practice. She started her residency in veterinary pathology at Utrecht University and successfully completed it in 2002. Jooske earned her PhD from Utrecht University in 2008 with a thesis titled "Liver Fibrosis Regeneration in Dogs and Cats: An Immunohistochemical Approach." Following her PhD, she focused on research related to diagnostic work as a zoo and wildlife veterinary pathologist. Jooske has achieved the basis teaching qualification (BTQ) in 2014 and the senior qualification (STQ) in 2021, alongside completing a Course on Educational Leadership in September 2024. She chaired the committee for the optimization of the bachelor curriculum from 2020 to 2021 and was part of the subsequent implementation committee for the bachelor curriculum from 2021 to April 2023. Additionally, she was a member of the bachelor examination committee from 2021 to November 2022 and involved in quality assessments. From 2019 until April 2023, Jooske coordinated the pathology education for bachelor and master programs in veterinary medicine. Starting in 2023, she serves as the director of the Undergraduate School of Veterinary Medicine at Utrecht University.
