Joost Reek is a Professor of Supramolecular Catalysis at the University of Amsterdam. He completed his Master's degree in Chemistry at the University of Nijmegen in 1991 and received his PhD in 1996 under Professor R.J.M. Nolte, specializing in supramolecular chemistry synthesis. In 1996, he became a postdoctoral fellow with Professor M.J. Crossley in Sydney, gaining expertise in porphyrin chemistry and dendrimers. In January 1998, he joined the University of Amsterdam as a lecturer and advanced to senior lecturer in 2003. He established a successful research line at the intersection of transition metal catalysis and supramolecular chemistry, leading to patents and publications in high-impact journals. He was appointed full professor in 2006 and became the scientific director of the Van 't Hoff Institute for Molecular Sciences (HIMS) from 2013 to 2017. Reek founded InCatT, an innovative catalyst technologies spin-off company, in 2009. He has received numerous grants, including a VICI grant and an ERC advanced grant, and has been actively involved in collaborative research initiatives. His current work focuses on developing innovative approaches using supramolecular catalysis for therapeutic applications, particularly in oncology. Reek has published over 430 scientific papers and has a notable H-index of 82, ranking him among the top 1000 cited chemists worldwide.
