Biography

Jordan Conwell is an Associate Professor in the Department of Sociology at the University of Texas at Austin. His research focuses on the intersections of sociology, education, and inequality, examining how factors such as race, class, and gender influence educational outcomes and mobility. Conwell's work explores applied, solutions-oriented approaches to social problems on college campuses, including the relationship between education and socioeconomic inequality. He has a specific interest in W.E.B. Du Bois's methods and contributions to social science, currently co-authoring a book with Kevin Loughran that uses Du Bois's research methods to understand the evolution of social science in the early 20th century. Conwell holds a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology and Rhetoric from Bates College and both a Master of Arts and a Ph.D. in Sociology from Northwestern University.
